![]() ![]() The accommodation arranged by Emilie was delightful, her suggestions on activities, routes, restaurants, sights to see and visit were outstanding. We saw provincial France over 17 days, starting in the Cote D'Azur and culminating in Paris, visiting Provence, Burgundy and the Loire. ![]() The speed with which she responded to our requests was nothing short of amazing, she must never sleep !! We together finally put together a truly wonderful programme that met our every expectation. How she ever put up with our changing demands remains beyond me. We really did not know what we wanted to do, nor where we wanted to go and so our planning became a moving feast, most ably supported by Emilie. My wife and I and two friends decided we would like to visit France and by chance I found Emilie's website and initiated an online conversation with her over a year ago. The society Impressionists exhibited together until 1886. The name of the society was derived from Monet’s painting Impression: Sunrise. Claude Monet, Renoir, Pissarro and other painters came together to form a society of artist. The impressionist movement saw daylight only in 1874. With these other impressionist painters, he improved and challenged his way of painting. Through Bazille he was able to study works by Courbet, Delacroix, Corot, Millet and other important modern French artists. Studying in Charles Gleyre's traditional studio, Monet's fellow pupils included Renoir, Sisley and Bazille. Monet's parents encouraged him to study in Paris, where he met the Dutch painter Jongkind, who reinforced his devotion to nature. This was a revolutionary idea in the late 1850s. A talented caricaturist as a teenager, he was persuaded by Eugène Boudin to try painting in the open air, not only sketches but finished paintings. The sea remained an important subject for him.
